The Centre undertakes the following activities:

Preventive Education/Awareness Generation Programme
Awareness programme specifically targets the general public and high risk groups like outside immigrants, school dropped outs, children of alcoholics and children of HIV/AIDS infected/affected parents. Awareness programme starts at school level addressing adolescent group and continue with college students. Parents and teachers undergo training to develop skills to understand the psychology of the youth and to help them keep away from substances and harmful influences. Besides Audio visual aids such as slides, CDs and Power Point, innovative methods like drama/skit, group discussion and interactive session are included. Distribution of IEC material is also undertaken. School/College authorities, village councils and church leaders are actively associated with the awareness programme. The main topics dealt with are: (1) Ill-effects of alcohol and drugs, (2) Disease concept of addiction, (3) Drugs & HIV, and (4) Life skills for adolescents.

Identification of drug abusers and motivational counseling
Identification of substance/drug abusers for motivational counseling is one of the major tasks which require assessing the problem related to addiction and motivating the addicts to avail services at the Centre. Assessment of addiction is carried out through personal interviews with the clients and their family members and through use of standardized test. This is followed by counseling for motivating the addicts to avail treatment services. Details about the treatment process are thoroughly explained to the clients before entering for treatment. Services such as individual counseling, group therapy and family counseling to the patients and their family members are given on regular basis.

Detoxification and Medical Care
The rights based approach detoxification services are provided to the patients to make their withdrawal safe and comfortable. Medicines essential for detoxification and other medical emergencies are made available all the time. Essential medicines are provided free of charge for the entire period of the treatment. Referrals are made for those who have medical and psychiatric disorders. Psycho-Social treatment for total recovery of addicts is administered through individual counseling, group therapy, re-educative sessions, Yoga and exposure to NA/AA meeting and introduction to other recovering addicts. Services are delivered as per schedule for the patients and their families on regular basis. Psychological care to the families and the support persons are also provided.

Referral services
Drug users who exhibit symptoms like violence, depression, etc. are assessed for referrals for availing specialized services. Those clients who are HIV+ and develop opportunistic medical manifestations such as tuberculosis, hepatitis-C, STIs, etc. referrals are made for appropriate medical interventions which inter alia include services of other specialists, hospitals and testing laboratories run/controlled/aided/ accredited by the State Government.

After-Care/Follow-up and Rehabilitation
A clearly defined after care programme (counseling, relapse prevention programme, self-help programme, reaching out to patients through home visits) are made available with focus on the whole person recovery of the individual.

Procedures are clearly laid out for relapsed patients to address relapse issues (in both detoxification and counseling services). After- care plans of alternative methods for patients who have not recovered are explored and extended support to their family members.

The centre prepares immediate care plan as well as long-term rehabilitation plan for each individual patient after proper assessment of their overall needs. After care programme such as counseling, relapse prevention programme, self-help programme, reaching out to patients through regular home visits are made available with focus on the whole person recovery of the individual. Rehabilitation through vocational training to facilitate income generation is a part of the services of the Centre. Procedures are laid out for relapsed patients to address relapse issues. After-care plan of alternative methods for those who have not recovered were explored before discharge and prepared individual care plan and dealt with accordingly. After-care and follow-up services are provided on an out–patient basis.

Care and support to families for co-dependence and rehabilitation
The Centre develops programmes for the family members especially for co-dependence and ensures the social reintegration of the addict/family. This programme includes counseling, relapse prevention programme, self-help programme, reaching out to the families through regular home visits. Social Worker and Community Worker make the families understand disease concept of addiction, and help them develop a caring attitude towards the addicts. This programme helps the addicts as well as their families to deal with their negative emotions and improve their quality of life.

Rehabilitation
To facilitate the self-sustainability of the addict/dependent family members, the Centre avails services available through various schemes/programmes of the Government through effective networking. Rehabilitation activities include relevant vocational training utilizing local resources which involve identification and networking with Government recognized vocational centres. Recovered/recovering addicts are referred to these centres for training.

Food for the inmates
The Centre provides wholesome food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) to the patients. The inmates are provided food free of charge @ Rs. 75/- per day per person for wholesome food of 3 (three) meals a day for all the inmates. Food of the same quality, as per fixed diet chart approved by the District Level Committee, is provided to all the inmates irrespective of their economic status.
